1. “The Murker: Fabian Nuñez”
-Menu music for “Jale” DVD. This song is a call for social action by Brown Beret leader Fabian Nuñez.
2.“The Reaper: José Angel Gutiérrez”
-Credit music for “Jale”. This song is a testimony to the rage and dissatisfaction that Chicanos and Mexicans feel towards the United States due to their status as second-class citizens in their own homeland.
3.“The Heartbeat”
-This piece was created as an assignment for my Digital and Experimental Audio class at the University of Washington. It is intended to be an exercise in pacing and storytelling using only sound. It was used as a soundtrack for a video piece that was created in collaboration with another class. Because it was created to accompany a moving image, the length of the track has been extended for a longer chase scene.
4. “Shaken Memory”
-“Shaken Memory” was submitted as my final for the Digital and Experimental Audio class Rafael Flores attended while at the University of Washington. The assignment was to choose a childhood memory and express the recollection, and the process of remembering, through sound. For my final I chose to present my memory of the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989. This project attempts to utilize eight speakers to conceptualize the layered process of an earthquake memory by slowly adding ambient noises on all sides and amplifying bass frequencies. A secondary audio plot is added to the ambience that deals strictly with the memory of my mother attempting to rip my baby sister out from her baby swing. The mother runs into a field and is subsequently surrounded in chaos. Slowly the audio elements dwindle down to the most memorable sounds of the experience. This was also created to accompany moving images so the length of the track has been extended as well.
5.“Trick or Treat: The Wilhelm Scream”
-This project was submitted as my midterm for my Digital and Experimental Audio class at the University of Washington. The assignment was to simply incorporate the infamous Wilhelm Scream into a piece of audio art. In addition to completing this assignment, “Trick or Treat” also attempts to comment on the dogmatic and biased nature of art criticism that excludes Hip-Hop as legitimate art form.
